The end of 2013. Year of the Snake. Sixth animal of the Chinese zodiac, signifying a soft exterior and a hard, strong interior. With the potential to lash out and attack. Especially when Tiger and Monkey are around. Or something. The Chinese zodiac is confusing.
But no more confusing, bizarre, hilarious, and ultimately chaotic as the year that was, presented here as a special double-issue of DigBoston. Inside, you’ll find a hilarious spread highlighting the year that was. From fallen sports gods, to sunken careers (read: Paula Deen), and all manner of memes. Also, we had some of our favorite local bands reflect on their personal favorite things, and we asked local court jester and unapologetic creative tornado Rob Potylo to go over the year in Quiet Desperation–his Allston-based YouTube reality series (if you haven’t seen it, you should).
Finally, since we do a lot of eating and drinking, we compiled a rundown of the best local champagne-y corked beers to supplement the obligatory midnight bubbly toast with something of the suds variety. And since suffering is a universal problem the day after New Year’s, do yourself a favor and observe the roundup of five starch-heavy brunches to soak up the remnants of the night before the day after.
Dealing with starting off 2014 with a walk of shame is all on you, however.
